Our Story
Nexus Youth Initiative Uganda started as a group of vibrant youths who had the vision to impact the community through promoting talented youths musically in 2019. Our initial mission was to empower the youth using music, drama and supporting talented young musicians using an on line television and spiritual up bring of the young people and events promotion and management label name; Nexus Tone Promotions. The negative effects of Covid 19 especially on the female adolescent youth girls and boys motivated our team to form a community based organization called Nexus Youth Initiative; that would address the plight of the girl child through advocating for their Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and protection against all forms of violence, abuse and exploitation like early forced marriages, abortion and denial of right to education and later we included the spiritual way of life through including the scriptures in every activities we do in the community.
Our online televised approach of reaching out to the youth impacted many youths during COVID 19 lockdown had tremendous impact since they could access it using our social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. We also engaged youths’ productively through our online TV – edutainment approach that disseminates educating and entertaining messages mainly targeting the youth through the social platforms and also live streaming of church services on Sunday because all churches were closed so that we could bring the Sunday services/fellowships close to the people into their phones.
This was purposed to address prevalent teenage pregnancies caused by forced marriages by the parents and relatives and inaccessible SRH services and supplies during the COVID 19 pandemic era, plus other emerging protection issues of GBV, child abuses and domestic violence.
We want to set precedent by being the most vibrant, innovative and sustainable solutions oriented and accountable refugee youth – led Community Based Organization in Adjumani district that other youth groups that have passion to serve humanity emulate from. We want to change the trend of youth being perceived as idlers and incapable of making informed objective decisions, hence our commitment to empower other youth using our on- line platforms and community sensitizations as well youth skills development programs.
Accordingly, our journey into development and humanitarian work was ignited after the seed funding of Ugandan shillings 18 million Up Accelerate –Way Edition Program for advancing meaning youth engagements through socio – economic empowerment using NEXUS TV UGANDA online social innovation. This was aimed at reducing the high prevalence of teenage pregnancies and inequitable employment opportunities which were and remain major negative effects of COVID 19 to date.
By so doing the innovation majorly was purposed also to the dissemination of SRHR and GBV information online on different social media platforms as well as creation of short edutainment videos and Video-documentaries.
